Feature Story:
About the Unit 114 Owners
Aloha, and welcome from the Honokeana Cove Unit 114 owners!
We’re Art and Nola Chester, and we’d like to invite you to visit our little bit of paradise. Please consider unit 114 for your next Hawaii vacation.
We live in Southeast Michigan, with roots in Malibu, California and the New York City area. Now we are enjoying retirement; previously, Art directed a research lab (see ArtChester.net) and Nola was at General Motors.
Why Honokeana Cove?
Our neighbors in Malibu had been coming to Honokeana Cove for many years and they persuaded us to give it a try. We loved it immediately and soon wanted to become condo owners! Honokeana Cove is nicer and more personal than the big resort hotels where we used to vacation. At a hotel you might walk a mile from the parking lot and a mile down the hall to your room. However, at the Cove you can walk off your lanai and you’re “right there” – lounging in the sun, splashing in the pool, or snorkeling in a peaceful corner of the Pacific Ocean. And swimming with the giant Green Sea Turtles is a unique, almost spiritual experience.
We’ve found that both guests and owners at Honokeana Cove are easy-going and friendly. In addition, the Cove is great for groups. Every so often, we book four or five units at the Cove for a family vacation on Maui. With separate units each family unit has privacy, yet we’re all together at the same time.
We love the Napili area for its low-rise, “Old Hawaii” feeling. In addition, we love Honokeana Cove for its privacy, its friendliness, and its superbly landscaped grounds. The on-site Managers are full of Aloha spirit – when we visit, they make both visitors and owners feel as if they are returning home.
We are happy to be able to share this special place with you!
Why Unit 114?
We had seen and stayed in several units at Honokeana Cove. However, when Unit 114 became available, we immediately wanted to become owners.
Why this unit? For many reasons: Because unit 114 is on the ground floor, so you can use your lanai as your “front door” – you’re not always running up and down stairs. Because 114 is centrally located, facing west, with a clear and open view of lawn, pool, Cove and sunsets. And because unit 114 is in the center building, which gets sun and afternoon breezes.
Since we became 114 owners in 2003, we have redecorated several times, and we update appliances or furniture every year when we visit. We also installed crisp tile and stone and decorated with colorful Hawaiian fabrics and prints. But we’re not too serious. We have wooden fish “swimming” above our kitchen cabinets. We also have a big ceramic turtle on the wall of the lanai, in honor of the even bigger ones that live in the Cove.
Guests & Owners at the “Center of Everything”
Our guests tell us that at Honokeana Cove they always feel they are at the “center of everything.” The Cove is in the perfect location to enjoy Maui, the most beautifully varied of the Hawaiian islands.
Honokeana Cove is only a 7 minute drive from the West Maui Airport (JHM), but we usually fly into the “big” airport in Kahului (OGG), 55 minutes away.
You’ll find the Cove in Napili, a quiet area between the big resorts of Kaanapali and Kapalua. You can easily get to those places when you want to shop, play golf or tennis, or visit a special restaurant, but you don’t have to put up with their crowds the rest of the time. Honolua Bay, D T Fleming beach, and the natural-feeling northwest coast are just minutes to the north.
Moreover, in all of Napili, we believe that Honokeana Cove is the very best spot! Behind private gates, the Cove is a small compound of 38 low-rise units around a private cove. The Cove has wonderful snorkeling, with tropical fish, coral gardens and plenty of giant Sea Turtles. Just outside the Cove, visible from the unit 114 lanai, is one of West Maui’s top surfing spots, where you will see local surfers showing their skills. And if you want a sandy beach for variety, Napili Bay beach, one of Maui’s most beautiful, is just a 5 minute walk (¼ mile) to the north.
